I’ve been pouring over a variety of alphabet books lately. There are a million choices, but the ones I think are best (especially for the “5 & under crowd”) feature fun, eye-catching photos or illustrations, clear font, age appropriate vocabulary, and a wide appeal to both kids and adults.  Here are some of my favorites…What are yours?

A is for Apple by Tiger Tales

A is for Artist by Ella Dorin

ABC: a Child’s First Alphabet Book by Alison Jay

ABC Kids by Laura Williams

A to Z by Sandra Boynton

Baby ABC by Deborah Donenfeld

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr.

A Child’s Day: An Alphabet of Play by Ida Pearle

Creature ABC by Andrew Zuckerman

Dr. Seuss’s ABC: an amazing alphabet book by Dr. Seuss

Eating the Alphabet: Fruits and Vegetables from A to Z by Lois Ehlert

LMNO Peas by Keith Baker

Flora McDonnell’s ABC by Flora McDonnell

The Sleepy Little Alphabet : A Bedtime Story from Alphabet Town by Judy Sierra

  1. Great list! We really liked Hooper Humperdink, Not Him by Dr. Seuss too. Also, not book related, but we also loved listening to the ABCs by They Might Be Giants…we used to play the cd’s all the time and watch the youtube videos all the time.
